Serie A: Siena v Napoli

Siena are without a win in four but will be hopeful of starting the reign of Giuseppe Iachini with a victory when they take on a similarly out of form Napoli on Saturday (2pm GMT).

The Tuscans parted company with Serse Cosmi in the wake of last weekend’s 4-1 defeat away to Fiorentina, their eighth defeat of the Serie A season and a result that left them bottom of the table as we approach the half-way point of the campaign.

But Cosmi may feel a little aggrieved about his sacking. Siena have generally fared well against the teams in and around them in the league table and would in fact be 15th had they not been deducted six points for involvement in match fixing prior to the season’s commencement.

Iachini, whose two previous spells in Serie A ended badly, saw his team lose on penalties to Lazio in the Coppa Italia in midweek following a 1-1 draw in normal play. He will be hoping for three points on his league debut against a Napoli side in disarray.

The Partenopei have lost their last four matches in all competitions and to compound matters this week have been deducted two points and had their club captain, Paolo Cannavaro, and vice-captain Gianluca Grava banned for six months for failing to report attempted match fixing.

This Preview’s Betting Tip: Siena have not been in the best of form recently but have a decent squad and are capable of getting at least a point against a Napoli side who are themselves out of form and have seen their preparations for this match severely compromised.
