Parma have shaken off a difficult start to the season to move comfortably into the top ten at the half way point of the campaign and will be hopeful of maintaining their unbeaten home record when they host league leaders Juventus on Sunday (2pm GMT, live on ESPN).
Roberto Donadoni’s side began the season with just one win in their first seven fixtures, but have recovered thereafter, recording seven wins, two draws and three defeats in the subsequent 12 matches to ascend to eighth in the table, the same position they finished last season.
Parma have been far more effective at home than on their travels, recording six wins and three draws, scoring 16 and conceding just seven, in comparison to a record of two wins, two draws and six defeats away from the Ennio Tardini, with 11 scored and 18 conceded.
They have overcome the loss of Sebastian Giovinco, who was directly involved – scoring or assisting – in 48% of Parma’s goals last season, with a team effort that has seen their 27 goals shared around between 12 different players. The Gialloblu are certainly not the most spectacular team in the division, but they are getting the job done.
Juventus are the current league leaders and clear favourites to hold onto the title they won last season. They did, however, slip up last weekend, falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to a Sampdoria side who played the last hour of the match with ten men.
It was only Juve’s third defeat of the campaign and with a five point cushion over second place Lazio was not a result that will have unduly worried their coach Antonio Conte. He has, though, admitted that his team are suffering from fatigue, and they will be without Claudio Marchisio, Giorgio Chiellini and Kwando Asamoah for Sunday’s match.
This Preview’s Betting Tip: Parma have been very strong at home so far this season and against a depleted Juventus can be fancied to maintain their unbeaten record at the Ennio Tardini.
