Roma v Palermo Betting Tips & Preview

Zdenek ZemanIf you can guarantee one thing from Zdenek Zeman’s Roma then it is goals and expect more to flow when they host Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday (7.45pm GMT).

Zeman (pictured) does not do things by half, espousing an all-attacking style that can leave his team horribly exposed in defence. Roma have the dubious honour of having both scored (22) and conceded (19) the most goals of any team in Serie A this season.

Up front, Zeman has the brilliantly talented trio of Erik Lamela, Francesco Totti and Pablo Osvaldo to call upon, a trio who have scored a total of 14 goals so far. After being lambasted for his lack of movement earlier in the campaign, Lamela now appears to have taken particularly well to Zeman’s methods, scoring five in his last four appearances.

This attacking threat has, however, been allied to an unfamiliar, inexperienced defence, who have struggled to adapt to the high line and offside trap Zeman requests of them. The back four who conceded three times in defeat to Parma on Wednesday had an average age of 21.5 and a combined total of just 22 starts for Roma.

Palermo (best at 21/4 to win with BetVictor) have generally been quite solid defensively since Gian Piero Gasperini replaced Giuseppe Sannino. They have conceded just six times in seven matches, but showed certain weaknesses in their 2-2 draw with AC Milan in midweek that suggest his three man defence could well come unstuck against a strong Roma offence.

Our Preview Betting Tip: Roma (best at 4/7 to win with Ladbrokes & Coral) combine a superb attack with a terrible defence, almost guaranteeing goals. There have been an average of 4.10 goals in matches involving them to date, with seven of the ten ending with four or more.

  • We therefore suggest betting on over 3.5 goals @ evens (1/1) with Boylesports.
