Prior to last weekend’s defeat to Pescara, Parma had won three on the bounce and will be hoping to return to winning ways when they entertain bottom club Siena at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday (2pm GMT).
That run of wins, culminating in a thrilling victory over Roma, suggested Parma were starting to adapt to the departure of Sebastian Giovinco, the pint-sized attacking midfielder who was key to their ascension to a eighth place finish last season.
Parma are yet to see the best of Dorlan Pabon or Sotiris Ninis, the players who were expected to fill Giovinco’s shoes. However experienced striker Amauri has chipped in with a few goals and summer signing Ishak Belfodil has provided two goals and two assists. Added to that, the pace of French forward Jonathan Biabiany, another man with two assists to his credit, has been a consistent threat to opposition defences.
No one player has been able to replicate all that Giovinco brought to the team, but collectively Parma’s forwards have been able to cover most of it. The Gialloblu are currently ninth in the table with four wins, three draws and four losses to their name, some nine points and 11 places clear of their visitors.
Siena’s points tally is slightly misleading as without the six point penalty they received for match-fixing offences they would be just three points shy of Parma. Nevertheless there can be no denying that they are in poor form, having lost four of their last six matches.
Betting Tips Verdict: Parma are undefeated at home so far this season and face a Siena side who have lost four of the five away matches they have played to date.
With Amauri back in the side after missing the defeat to Pescara last weekend we believe a home victory is on the cards. So bet on Parma to win @ best odds of 5/6 with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Stan James or William Hill.
