Manchester United v Fulham Preview

Man Utd will be thoroughly disappointed after an opening day defeat. They already trail their bitter rivals across the city by three points. It is possible that Fulham will be victim of a backlash tomorrow (3pm).

The much-awaited home debut of Robin van Persie may occur at Old Trafford against the Cottagers. Much of the hype this weekend will follow the Dutch striker. New arrival Alexander Buttner is also expected to feature.

The visitors will hope to continue where they left off after the sensational victory they registered last week. Norwich were the victims of the 5-0 rout. An on-song Fulham side made the Canaries pay as they played with fluidity. Mladen Petric scored twice on his debut and is set to start at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. The London team will hope they have the instinctive strike force to expose the second string United defence.

Ferguson is without Phil Jones (Back injury), Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling (Foot injury), Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand (Leg injury). Patrice Evra may well have to abandon his left back position in order to fill in the centre vacancies.

Fulham are without Clint Dempsey, Kerim Frei and Phillipe Senderos due to injuries.

I feel as though the attacking force of the Devils could be too much for Martin Jol’s side. Despite them flying to the top of the league temporarily, they will no doubt have their work cut out tomorrow.

Man Utd have won the previous three meetings without conceding a goal. It could be a different story this time as Fulham were rampant in their last game and United’s injury crisis at the back will encourage the away team.

Betting Advice

Expect a Man Utd win – they simply can’t afford back-to-back losses. If pushed for a correct score prediction then I would go with with 3-1.

Be sure to back van Persie to shine in his home debut, to the bemusement of Gunners’ fans. My betting tips are:

  • Back Man Utd to win 3-1 on the ‘correct score’ betting market at odds of 11/1 with BetVictor or Stan James.
  • Bet on Robin van Persie to be ‘first goalscorer’ at best odds of 7/2 with LadbrokesLadbrokes.
