Reigning champions Juventus begin their defence at home to Parma in a repeat of last season’s opening day fixture (Saturday 25th August, 7.45pm GMT). Juventus ran out 4-1 winners on that occasion and strengthened by the arrival of Mauricio Isla, Kwadwo Asamoah and the returning Sebastian Giovinco are again favourites to triumph.
Parma ended last season in fine style, recording seven straight victories that propelled them to an 8th place finish. However, the departure of Giovinco, their primary inventor and goalscorer, to Saturday’s opponents has weakened their offensive capabilities.
This, combined with the fact that miserly defending was key to Juventus’ unbeaten title-winning season – they conceded just 20 goals in 38 matches, 13 less than the next tightest defence in the league – might suggest that backing only Juventus to score (10/11 at bet365) would be the shrewd bet.
However, with Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini missing through injury, Juventus are without two of the key components of last season’s watertight defensive unit, and have looked decidedly shaky at back at times during pre-season.
Betting Tips: With the physical presence of Amauri and explosive pace and power of new Colombian striker Dorlan Pabon, Parma still have enough about them to get on the score sheet and therefore backing both teams to score at 5/4 with Bet365 is the way to go.
