Fiorentina are unbeaten at home this season and will be looking to keep that run going when they host Cagliari at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday (2pm GMT).
Vicenzo Montella has made a positive impact since taking over as Fiorentina coach in the summer, lifting a team who finished in a lowly 13th last season to a top five position, just four points shy of third place Napoli. What is more, he has done so whilst promoting attractive possession football.
Fiorentina come into their match against Cagliari on the back of three wins in their last four matches, the last of which was a 1-0 win away to Genoa in midweek. They have won four and drawn one of their five home matches to date, scoring seven and conceding just once.
Cagliari have also been in good form of late, winning four matches on the bounce since Ivo Pulga replaced Massimo Ficcadenti in early October. Pulga has impressed in his first senior coaching job, the key to his success being the tightening of a defence that had conceded in every match prior to his arrival.
Three of Cagliari’s wins under Pulga have been by a scoreline of 1-0, with only their midweek 4-2 win at home to Siena providing much entertainment. He is likely to employ an approach more in keeping with the first three matches of his reign on Sunday.
- Preview Betting Tip: All of Fiorentina’s home matches this season have ended with less than three goals, as have all of Cagliari’s away matches. Cagliari have also kept three clean sheets in the four matches since they changed coach, leading us to suggest backing under 2.5 goals @ 13/18 with Pinnacle.
