Fiorentina gave further notice of their top of the table aspirations with a 3-1 win away to Milan last weekend and will be hopeful of extending their unbeaten home record when they host Atalanta on Sunday (2pm GMT).
Vincenzo Montella has done a fantastic job at Fiorentina, quickly moulding his extensive new recruits into an attractive passing team, easy on the eye, but also solid in defence. They are currently fourth in the table on the back of an excellent recent run of form that has seen them win each of their last four matches.
Fiorentina have won five of their six matches at the Stadio Artemio Franchi so far this season, drawing the other 0-0 with Juventus. They have scored eleven times whilst conceding just twice. Home and away, they currently have the joint-best defensive record in the league, with nine goals conceded in 12 matches.
Atalanta are also in the midst of a good run of form, winning four of their last Serie A matches, including last weekend’s impressive 3-2 triumph over Inter Milan. They are currently sixth in the league despite a two point penalty for involvement in match fixing and look on course to better last season’s 12th place finish.
They have an even record away from home, winning twice, drawing twice and losing twice, generally keeping the matches fairly tight. While they have only once scored more than one goal on their travels, they have also never conceded more than twice.
This Preview’s Betting Tip: Fiorentina are excellent at home and are favourites to emerge victorious on Sunday. They have a strong defensive record, which combined with Atalanta’s less than prolific scoring away from home leads us to suggest backing Fiorentina to win to nil @ 13/8 with Ladbrokes.
