We can’t boast too heavily about tipping an 8/15 winner, but we told you Roger Federer was a good thing in the Men’s Wimbledon final and looked amazing value at the odds to beat Andy Murray.
It is not often we advocate an odds-on shot as a good bet. In fact we are likely to find any reason under the sun to oppose a short price, except when that short price is huge value. In reality Federer should have been 1/4 to beat Murray and we are not talking in hindsight. I don’t like to say we told you so . . . erm . . . but we kinda told you so.
It may have seemed obvious, but not to every punter as outclassed Murray was available as short as 6/4 and best priced at just 7/4. The weight of misplaced patriotic money skewed the odds massively to the advantage of those objective punters not lobotomised by the media hype.
