After a second consecutive home league defeat, Inter Milan at least have a good opportunity to continue their strong away form when they travel to Verona on Wednesday (7.45pm, BST) to face a Chievo side that is pointless since the opening day of the season.
Sunday’s defeat to Siena left Inter winless in five home matches in all competitions. A new partially artificial surface was laid at the San Siro over the summer and neither Inter nor AC Milan have won there since its introduction. Lucky for Inter, they have performed well on the road, winning all four of their away matches, scoring ten and conceding none.
A number of the problems that have been apparent in other Inter displays so far this campaign were in evidence on Sunday, most notably a lack of off-ball movement. However, away from home and against a side more likely to dictate the play, this should not be as obvious as it was against Siena. Inter can sit back and await opportunities to attack instead of labouring to break down a defensively aligned team.
Chievo won their opening match of the season at home to Bologna, but have now lost three in a row: away to Parma and Juventus and at home to Lazio. They are a solid enough team, but look creaky in defence and with confidence low are vulnerable to another loss on Wednesday.
Betting Tip: Inter’s strong away record coupled with Chievo’s poor form suggests that backing Inter Milan to win @ 8/5 with William Hill would be an astute choice.
