Chievo v Sampdoria Preview

Last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Palermo was just the latest calamity for a Chievo side who have failed to pick up a point since the opening day of the season. With a new coach in the dugout they will be hoping to arrest their slide at home to Sampdoria (5pm BST, Saturday, Oct 6).

Victory over Bologna in the first match of the campaign seemed to preface a solid campaign for the Venice-based team. But five consecutive defeats thereafter, featuring 13 goals conceded and just two scored, put paid to such pretensions and resulted in the sacking of coach Domenico Di Carlo.

His replacement, Eugenio Corini, inherits a squad low on confidence and deprived of two of its best forwards – Alberto Paloschi and Sergio Pellissier – due to injury. To make matters worse he faces a Sampdoria side who have made an excellent start to life back in the top flight.

Promoted through the play-offs, Sampdoria have surprised many by making the best start of any of the promoted teams, currently sitting fifth with three wins, two draws and one defeat from their fixtures to date.

Coach Ciro Ferrera has employed an attacking 4-3-3 formation that has seen the Genoese club score in all but one of their matches. They were somewhat unfortunate to lose 1-0 at home to Napoli last week and have performed well on their travels, winning in Milan and Pescara and drawing against Roma.

Chievo v Sampdoria Betting Tips

With their primary attackers missing through injury it is hard to see Chievo getting a result against a Sampdoria side who have prospered away from home so far this season.
