Catania have an excellent home record this season in Serie A and will be confident of extending it when they host Chievo at the Stadio Angelo Massimino on Sunday (2pm GMT).
The Sicilians have made a good start to the campaign – picking up points at a slightly higher rate than they did in finishing 11th last season – and are currently 8th in Serie A on 16 points from 12 matches.
They are yet to win on their travels but have won four of their six home matches, with their only defeat coming in controversial circumstances against Juventus. They thrashed Lazio 4-0 in their last match on home soil.
New coach Rolando Maran has not upset the apple cart, continuing the fine work done by his predecessor Vicenzo Montella. With Francesco Lodi conducting from a deep midfield role and the Argentinian forward three of Alejandro Gomez, Gonzalo Bergessio and Pablo Barrientos combining pace, invention and hard graft, Catania are a good side who will trouble most visitors to Sicily.
Chievo, certainly, will struggle to get anything from Sunday’s match. They have improved their home form since Ivo Pulga replaced Domenico Di Carlo in early October, which has been enough to drag them out of the relegation places, but still remain very poor away from Verona.
The Gialloblu have lost all five of their away matches in Serie A to date, conceding 14 goals whilst scoring just two. They lost 5-1 away to an average Milan side in their last away encounter and were beaten 4-1 at Palermo earlier in the season.
This Preview’s Betting Tip: Catania have an excellent home record and with no significant injury worries should fairly comfortably emerge victorious against a Chievo side who have failed to pick up a solitary point on their travels this season.
