Cagliari have made a slow start to the season, gaining just two points from their first three fixtures and will struggle to improve their haul when Roma visit the Stadio Sant’Elia on Sunday (2pm BST, Sept 23).
Despite dominating possession in all of their matches to date (they have averaged a 61.3% share) Cagliari have lacked a cutting edge up front. They have been unable to convert control of matches into three points. In fact, only late equalisers against both Atalanta and Palermo have spared them a pointless campaign so far.
Being toothless up front is certainly not a deficiency one could attest to Roma. The Giallorossi have scored seven times this season, the goals spread between five different scorers. Their coach Zdenek Zeman is a career-long advocate of attacking football, clearly prioritising offensive intent over defensive solidity. Roma have conceded five goals this season, including three in last week’s 3-2 defeat at home to Bologna.
That meant more points dropped at home after a 2-2 draw with Catania on the opening day of the season. So it is important for Roma to take three points on Sunday, just as they did in their first away match, a 3-1 win over Inter Milan.
Betting Tip: Zeman teams always come out of the blocks quickly and Roma have opened the scoring within the first 15 minutes on two out of three occasions this season. We advise betting on Roma to score before the 41st minute @ 5/6 with Bet365. You can find this wager option in their ‘Time of 1st Away Goal’ market for this match.
