Betfred Bookmaker has developed into one of the biggest in the world. Their online betting site has every conceivable sports betting market. It uses the best website software and has millions of registered clients.
Whether it is for football or horse racing betting, the website so fast, intuitive and easy to use. The deposit methods are plentiful and, crucially, this company is as fast as a speeding bullet at paying you out when you request money back to your chosen method. The customer service is top notch too. We know because we do bet with this site regularly and have no complaints at all.
We find it reassuring to know they also manage thousand of UK betting shops. In 2011 they bought The Tote, also known as Totesport, which had been state owned until then. The UK government trusted Betfred to do a good job with that betting firm. They would hardly have sold such a prized asset to some fly-by-night outfit! No, this is the real deal: a great place to join and scrupulously fair. We review this company in more detail below.
Betfred is one of the UK’s most well known bookies, having started out as just a handful of bookmaker shops run by brothers Peter and Fred Done back in 1967. After opening an impressive 750 shops, they made the move online in 2004 and have built up a steady reputation ever since. The company behind it is Petfre Ltd., which is registered and licensed in Gibraltar, but also have operations based in Warrington, England. Even though they are primarily UK facing in their selection of sports, they still have a lot to offer.
Navigating the website
When you get to the Betfred Sport page, the first thing you’ll most likely notice, after an overload of the colour blue, is the central section with its moving banners showing the details of the day’s main events.
Underneath that is where you’ll find the BetInPlay events for the day, arranged in time order, with events for ‘now’, ‘next 15 mins’, ‘next 3 hours’ and ‘later’, which is great for planning your sports betting day in advance. This area also gives you each event’s start time, the outright prices (updated live) and links to see more available markets on the event. The bottom area in the middle contains prices for selected events for the day as well as a couple of cross promos.
On the right hand side of the site is where you’ll see your bet slip first, followed by some ads for other products under their umbrella, such as casino, poker and games. Then you’ll find an image that links to the Interactive Racecards – a great tool for the serious horse racing punter. The sections that follow detail ‘next off’ events, arranged by sport, then in time order, and EPs for the horses.
Across to the left side of the site, you’ll find a link to Live Help, which might have been better placed above the bet slip, followed by a list of Betting Highlights, which list the day’s top events. Then you’ll see the list of all available sports, followed by a section to choose your preferred odds format from Fraction, Decimal and American, then a Services section containing links to news, racecards, results and stats, and finally a Live Commentary section that links you directly to a live audio feed of the action for selected events.
The lack of folding abilities for some of these sections is a little disappointing, especially if you have to scroll down the page to get to your chosen section because of it. The overwhelming blue makes the site a little dark but it’s all very neat and easily accessible all the same.
There’s a mobile friendly version of the site and betting from your mobile device is also an option with their smart phone app.
The sports on offer at Betfred are Horse racing, Football (soccer), Cricket, Tennis, American Football, Baseball, Boxing, Cycling, Darts, Golf, Greyhounds, Ice Hockey, Motor Sports, Olympics, Rugby Snooker and UFC/MMA Fighting.
You’ll also find Lottery Specials in there, which offer the chance to bet on which numbers will be drawn, as well as a variety of other outcomes, in selected lotteries, including the 49s, UK, Irish and Spanish lotteries.
There are also a number of other specials available that cover royalty, politics, TV shows and even fishing. While the range of sports is pretty UK-centric, the bookmaker is trying to broaden their offering a little by including more global sporting events, especially when it comes to Football and Horse racing, in order to attract a wider audience.
The live commentary is worth checking out, as are the other services such as Betting News, for keeping up to date on the latest sport happenings; Racecard and Results page for all your Horse Racing needs, the Interactive Racecards, for detailed info on runners and tracks; and the Football Analyser, which is handy for checking out the stats and picking your next winner.
There are around 16 accepted currencies available and you can use the following payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Visa Electron, Paypal, Moneybookers (Skrill), Neteller, cheque, bank transfer and also via the offline shops. The minimum deposit is £5, depending on your deposit method and bear in mind that using online wallets to deposit will exclude you from getting the welcome bonus. For withdrawals, you may be asked to provide documentation proving your identity and banking details.
